Are our traffic police becoming more and more hard headed

Face to face with ugly corruption on a day spent in court, (Daily Nation June 29, 2018) where a complainant narrates how she was arrested by Traffic Police and charged with over-speeding at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.She explains her ordeal in the hands of police court orderlies within the precincts of the court, who she says solicited for bribes to pay for her freedom despite the fact that she had duly paid her fine in court as required.There have been many such cases where members of the public go through harrowing experiences in the criminal justice system especially in regard to minor traffic offences.

But this does not seem to stop, as police are either abusing their power, citizens are not aware of their rights when in such a situation or a bit of both where the police have the upper hand. Video captured by one irate James Maina was disembarked from his vehicle while he as being toed to the station while he would have driven himself with the accompaniment of the police officer who in the video seems to avoid being filmed and refused to produce his badge for clarification to Mr James.

The car seems to be damaged with the bumper detached and this begs the question, as much as police are doing their work are they entitled to harass, fail to produce identification and damage private property in defense of doing their job.
