Oil Tycoon declares 2022 election bid

Former National Oil Chairman Daniel Wamahiu has announced his plan to vie for the Nyeri gubernatorial seat in the 2022 elections. Speaking to a local, reporter Wamahiu confirmed that he would be campaigning to bench current Governor Mutahi Kahiga.

He has accused the current county government of ignoring the challenges facing entrepreneurs in the region.

In a funds drive on Saturday, that was also attended by Governor Kahiga, Wamahiu stated that he respected the county boss because he was in power.  Before moving to the road construction industry, Wamahiu had prior investments in the oil business.

The former Kenya Pipeline Chairman is also a member of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association.

His entry into the 2017 Senatorial campaigns caused a frenzy in the region when he put up over 20 billboards in Nyeri Town alone. He, however, lost to fellow billionaire and road contractor Senator Ephraim Maina.

“Wamahiu is known by few and the richest. His candidature is somewhat intimidating because of his close links to State House,” commented Nyeri Woman Representative Mukami Wachira.

In 2016, Wamahiu hosted President Uhuru Kenyatta, National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and senior government officials, for a house warming party.
