Nigerian Election Delay Leads to the Postponement of Over 50 Marriages in Lagos!

When Judy Ezeanyagu woke up last weekend on Saturday, she had expectations that in a week’s time, it would be the most monumental day of her life.

Unfortunately, that was not to be, after breaking news announced the national elections would be delayed by a week.

Not only did this heighten political tensions, but resulted in the delay of many weddings across the capital.

And just like in Kenya, wedding in Nigeria are not cheap-o! (bad joke)

In fact, Judy and her hubby had spent roughly 2 million nairas for their special day, only for the money to go up in smoke with the election postpnement!

According to the Federal Marriage Registry, about 50 marriages scheduled for the 23rd February were cancelled or pushed forward.

Interestingly, it appears that the rich couples have not had their weddings affected by the election-date change.

Indeed, Kemi Akinolotu, Eventoires chief executive executive wedding planner, believes the main reason for this is that rich Nigerians have the financial power to host their weddings abroad.

As for the less-privileged ones, the elections are causing massive losses both emotionally and financially!
