Kajiado teacher bites off hyena’s nose on valentines day

 

Teacher John Matipei recuperates at Kajiado County Referral Hospital on February 18 after he was attacked by a hyena on Valentine's Day.

Forty two year old John Matipei was fetching water for his  five goats at a well around 5pm on Valentine’s Day when a hyena stalked and attacked him, biting his thigh.

John  Matipei who is a deputy headteacher at Emukutan Primary School near Maili 46 in Kajiado West Sub county was lucky enough to have gone home to his wife on Valentine’s day, after he was attacked by the hyena.

After wrestling with the hyena for about an hour, without any weapon, the deputy headteacher who also teaches a class of 119 pupils broke both his arms and lost a chunk of his left thigh.

“It was a matter of life and death and I had no weapon with me as it attacked me while I was fetching water for my goats around 5 pm,” he said.

He went on; “As soon as I had entered the well, the hyena landed on my thigh. I attempted to kick it but it did not let go. When I turned around it landed on my chest and faced me directly, that is when I bit its nose,” said Matipei.

Jacqueline Matipei, the wife to John Matipei said that she almost lost the love her life to a hyena on Valentine’s Day.

“I was looking forward to a great evening with my loving husband. I had prepared well to treat him, but that beast spoiled it all,” said Jacqueline.

Kajiado Knut executive secretary, Elly Korinko visited Matipei at the hospital and appealed to teachers’ service commission to deploy more teachers to the school.
