Filming Industry in Kisumu County to boom

Kisumu County launched a 3 day film and photography workshop on Tuesday aimed at nurturing creativity and supporting the film production industry at Hotel Millview.

Speaking while officially opening the workshop at the Millview Hotel in Kisumu this morning, Kisumu Governor Professor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o said that those in attendance will be taught various issues, ranging from film production and marketing the already produced films.

He said that Kisumu County government has allocated Shs 250 million to assist youths to grow their talents in various sectors ranging from acting, film production and sports.

“Beyond this training, the County Government will assist youth in marketing their already produced films,” he said.

On her part, Kisumu County Executive Committee Member for Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports Achie Alai Ojany said that they intend to make the workshop an annual event where film producers from Uganda can come to Kenya and vice versa.

“We want to make it an annual event to be held in Uganda and Kenya,” she said.

She challenged film producers to create informative and educative content around various topics such as health.
