‘Clear My Name! Waiguru demands feedback from EACC over NYS scandal

Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru has decried slow progress in the probe of National Youth Service (NYS) scandal where she was named a prime suspect. Waiguru has blamed the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission for laxity in handling the allegations that were tarnishing her reputation.

“My 6th letter to EACC and 2nd DPP requessting them to make public the findings of the Kabura affidavit. 3yrs have lapsed. Who was behind Kabura lies; who wrote the affidavit; who distributed it; and why? To whom did the Kabura money actually go? Any action being taken?” Posed Waiguru on her Twitter handle.

In a letter she attached to the tweet, Waiguru lamented that the delay was damaging her reputation and lending credence to the false allegations leveled against her.

In 2015, Kabura swore an affidavit claiming Waiguru introduced her to a number of people who would facilitate the tendering process and payments for the goods supplied and services rendered by her companies to the NYS. She further claimed the then Cabinet Secretary for Devolution plotted a cover up of the loot by implicating junior officers in her ministry to divert attention of investigating bodies.

EACC yet to answer Waiguru's questions on NYS scandal 3 years down the line.

Her affidavit was however, dismissed by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji. The DPP in his finding said Kabura lied to court and her affidavit could not be relied on. He ordered fresh investigations into the matter. It is from this finding by the DPP that prompted Waiguru to write letters to EACC demanding them to make public the finding of Kabura affidavit. She said the Commission has not responded to her 6 letters and the process has now taken 3 years.
