The good faith deal between Sicily Kariuki & clinicians that has solved strike dilemma

Strings have been pulled by the ministry of ealth who magically managed to convince clinical officers to sign an agreement that has successfully put their strike on hold.

The Recognition Agreement, signed on Monday, now gives the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (Kuco) legal grounds of engaging with the National Government on matters around their working conditions and remuneration.

“We wish to inform Kenyans that both sides have agreed to continue engaging in good faith so as to ensure uninterrupted delivery of health services to Kenyans,” read a statement signed by both Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki and Kuco General Secretary George Gibore.

The union on February 9, 2019 had announced that talks with the Government on a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) had collapsed.

Nurses in Embu County’s public health facilities have called off their strike.This comes as a relief for patients who had been admitted to various hospitals in the region.

The 640 nurses, who returned to work after staying away for seven days, are back to work after signing a return to work formula with the county government.

Local Kenya National Nurses Union (Knun) official Joseph Ngwasi said the health workers were satisfied with their deal with the government.

“We have officially called of the strike and our members are now attending to patients,” said Mr Ngwasi, the Embu branch Knun secretary.
