It is no longer news for AFC Leopards to hire and fire coaches with this becoming a norm in the den.

AFC Leopards are currently second from bottom having lost the last four successive games and former Kenyan international and Ingwe legend Boniface Ambani is set to be named the clubs head coach.

The former striker and current AFC youth coach hinted that he could contest for a top seat in the club and termed the poor form the team is experiencing lately as a result of the club’s poor management from the officials.

“Politicians will never have solutions to our football,” said Ambani, while appearing to cast aspersions at an earlier meeting between the club officials and Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.

“I am looking for only 10,000 AFC Leopards and soccer fans. Real fans. Fans who are ready to join hands and steer this club to where it should be.

“Let’s do this. This will change Kenyan football as a whole. The experience I have will steer this team to greater heights and will be the start of a greater journey of changing our soccer,” he added.

Ambani also insisted the office bearers did not have the club’s interests at heart as they were using their positions to enrich themselves.

He spent his last season with Tanzanian club Young Africans (Yanga) where he scored 18 goals in 22 matches. After an Achilles tendon retired in the Spring 2010.

The struggling Ingwe could be headed for relegation again and the last they were relegated was in 2006. It took them three years to earn promotion back to topflight football.

It might be premature but these are some of the questions on the lips of many Kenyans keenly following the dwindling fortunes of the 13 time Kenyan champions.

It is more shocking and devastating to those associated with the once mighty AFC as they are used to seeing them either challenge for the title or top three finish.

Just recently, the government bailed out the cash-strapped Ingwe with Sh2 million and the team has since become a shadow of its former self.

It’s safe to say Leopards has been turned into an average team, competing for nothing.
