However, United’s caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will still have plenty of options over how he sets his team up, and crucially he will be able to change things during the game too with youngster Tahith Chong part of the travelling squad to Stamford Bridge.

Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez flanked Jesse Lingard in United’s fourth-round win at Arsenal and they should be recalled to the XI for the game against Chelsea.

Solskjaer is turning to youth up top with teenager Chong expected to feature and Paul Pogba as some advise to him and other youngsters at the club.

“I once heard that at this club ‘there is no age’. As long as you are ready to play for the team, then let the young players go and just prove themselves.

“That’s how it is. This is Manchester United. You have the chance at this club.

“Young players can come and prove themselves, enjoy themselves and then become top, top players in the first team.”
