EAC seek strategic plan financing

The East African Community is appealing to African Development Bank to finance its five-year strategic plan.

Secretary-General Liberat Mfumukeko said EAC is seeking close to Sh1 billion from the Bank to support the bloc’s $985 million (Sh98.9 billion) development plan.

Most of the funding is planned to go to financing projects in the agriculture sector, Mr Mfumukeko hinted.

Speaking at a recent meeting in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, Mr Mfumukeko lauded the bank’s support to the region’s infrastructure agenda.

The East African Community (EAC) is an intergovernmental organization composed of six countries in the African Great Lakes region in eastern Africa: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. John Magufuli, the president of Tanzania, is the EAC’s chairman.
