University Dean Charged With Assaulting a Senior Lecturer

The Dean of Students at Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) Samwel Nderitu Wakanywa, appeared in a Kibera court on Friday to answer to charges of assaulting a senior lecturer over claims of hiring inexperienced and incompetent dons.

The accuser, formerly Senior Lecturer Rosa Ko, claimed that the university hired lecturers who are not Ph.D. holders, who were setting up below per examinations. Samwel is accused by Rosa Ko of beating her up when she disapproved the examinations set by the Political Science department lecturers.

I tried to walk away from the room, he tried to stop me, he grabbed my arm and I told him to stop hurting me. There were 30 people in the room and they are all witnesses to this incident,” noted Rosa.

Rosa deemed the examinations as shallow and open-ended further adding that they were not fit for that level of education.

“When I looked at the questions, they were not quality, they were nonsensical, open-ended and they make up the literature review of the course,” she noted in a previous interview.

The prosecution will call for 3 more witnesses to give their account on the incident.

The case will be heard on March 20, 2019.
