Kisii County Government has directed that all nurses on leave should report back to work.

Head of Kisii County Public Service Patrick Lumumba termed the move by nurses to continue participating in the nationwide strike as an act of defiance.

“Owing to the ongoing nurses strike, which is in total defiance of the court order and county government notice, it is herein directed that you recall all nurses who are on annual leave to resume duties with immediate effect,” he said in the letter dated February 15, 2019.

The Employment and Labour Relations Court suspended the strike for a period of 60 days to allow involved parties to attend conciliation talks initiated by Labour CS Ukur Yattani.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also issued a stern warning that nurses who fail to report back to their stations by Friday, February 15, will be sacked.
