Parents at Kahawa Garisson primary school have decried the extortion going on by the teachers at the school. According to a parent who sort anonymity the school has been demanding all parents to pay ksh .1500 to fund the annual teachers trip to Mombasa. The parents now say the school has even gone ahead to make the Ksh.1500 mandatory a move that was effected in 2018.“We are being told to pay Ksh. 1500 for the teacher’s trip to Mombasa. We paid last year, this year and now we are being told it will be an annual payment.” she lamented

The parents further claim that they are also being forced to pay for tuition fees for the morning and evening classes which they term as exhausting to most of the children.  “Apart from that we also pay Ksh.500 monthly for tuition and an additional ksh.100 yet the school is public. The children are overwhelmed they do not even have time to rest because they go to school early for the morning tuition and stay up to around 7:00 pm for the evening tuition.” she added.

One of the parents says they have tried to address the issue with the school but have not been successful. The school which is located inside Kahawa Barracks is an independent entity from the barracks and is a public school. We could not reach the school’s management for a comment regarding the accusations.
