Matatu as a form of transport in Kenya is the most used form of transport, It is the easiest way to move around from one place to the other.
Matatu transport has gotten world recognition after Aljazeera uploaded a video of Kenyan matatus on their online channel.
The name matatu is derived from the word ‘tatu’ which means three and it all dates back to when it was 3 shillings to board a matatu. The revolution in the matatu sector has seen it grow and formed a way of living and has become a booming business.
The matatus are fitted with graffiti to make it look adorable and to pass artistic messages. The popular ‘nganyas’ plying the Rongai route has been on the limelight for producing the best transport.
American singer Trey Songz made his way in 2016 is in for the recording on the fourth edition of the Pan African music show, Coke Studio Africa and had a chance to get on a matatu and he said that the culture was amazing.
However, the matatus are known for their ‘poor’ conduct in roads. The misconducted in Nairobi roads called for NTSA being deployed to reinstate sanity in public service vehicles.
