Tottenham Hotspur produced a stunning second half display on Wednesday evening to defeat Borussia Dortmund 3-0 and take a commanding lead in their Champions League tie.

Spurs were drawn against the Bundesliga leaders in the last 16 of the European competition, and with their current injury woes were written off before a ball was kicked.

With no Harry Kane, Dele Alli or Danny Rose in their line-up, Tottenham rallied in front of the Wembley crowd to all but seal their place in the next round.

Son Heung-min has been vital since the injury of Kane, and the midfielder opened the scoring before Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente sealed the win for Spurs late on.

Tottenham’s influential striker has been missing since injuring his ankle in their defeat to Manchester United back in January, and took to Twitter to reveal who impressed him the most on Wednesday evening.

Kane singled out Spurs goal-scorer Vertonghen for praise as he quote-tweeted the club’s final score graphic after his brilliant display.

The Tottenham defender was key to keeping Dortmund scoreless, and even created the opening goal of the tie as he assisted Son’s effort.

Vertonghen also found his way onto the end of Serge Aurier’s delivery to add his side’s second goal, before Llorente completed the rout just three minutes later.

With a number of huge names missing, Vertonghen stepped up and produced a performance that inspired his Spurs team mates to an incredible victory.
