25 years in jail served to Four men in Homa Bay over Murder Case

Appearing in court on Thursday, four men were  sentenced to 25 years in jail each, after they were found guilty of killing a man at Kakuwa Village in Ndhiwa Constituency, Homa Bay County.

Emmanuel Odhiambo, Justo Odhiambo, Preston Ayayo and Peter Ochieng’ were charged for raiding one, Charles Juma’s house on January 23, 2015, where they attacked and killed him.

The court heard that on the material day at around midnight, the four accused persons and others not before the court raided the late Juma’s home and demanded for a matchbox while the family of the deceased had already slept.

The family raised an alarm during the attack but nobody came to their rescue, as the accused proceeded to beat Mr. Juma to a pulp causing him injuries that led to his death.

Satisfied with the prosecution’s submission, High Court judge Joseph Karanja handed each of the accused persons 25 years in jail at Homa Bay GK prison.

In mitigation the accused persons pleaded with the court for leniency saying they have families and children who entirely depend on them.

The accused were given 14 days to appeal the court ruling.
