The detectives established the intent to procure an abortion of a five-month-old pregnancy and it is alleged that an unidentified doctor had demanded Sh7000 to conduct the procedure.

The fee was later reduced to Sh6000 and was sent to Mwatha by Alexander.

However, her husband, Joshua Ochieng, is having none of it. According to Ochieng, the narrative given by the police does not make sense at all.

“The body has a very big cut on the thigh, how can that be an abortion?” he asked.

“If she was supposedly aborting for fear of ruining her marriage, why would she wait to do that after five months?” he asked. “Why didn’t she do it in the first month or two or even less?”

The court allowed police to detain Mr Michael Onchiri, Ms Betty Akinyi, Mr Richard Ramoya Abudo, Mr Georgia Achieng, Mr Alexander Gitau Gikonya and Mr Stephen Maina, who were arrested in connection to the death, for 14 days citing their own safety as investigations continue.
