The criminals ask one of them to strike a conversation with a reveller before they lace the drink with a drug.
Two women were on Wednesday arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts for allegedly spiking a man’s drink in Lang’ata, Nairobi and robbing him of Ksh.1.9 million.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, Joyce Britney and Florence Wangare were charged that on January 17, 2019 they administered a stupefying chemical substance known as Rohypnol on Fredrick Omondi Okati at Ngei 11 Estate in Langata with an intent to steal from him.Image result for makadara court

The court heard that they also unlawfully transferred Ksh.1,940,000 from Mr. Okati’s Stanbic Bank account into several accounts held at Equity Bank, Family Bank and M-Pesa accounts.

The two were further charged, jointly with others not before court, with conspiracy to stupefy in order to steal.

Britney, who was busted with a pack containing 7 one-miligram tablets of Rohypnol, was also said to have stolen Mr. Omondi’s mobile phone and ATM card all valued at Ksh.23,000.

She, hence, faced several other counts of electronic fraud, stealing and handling stolen properties against the law.Image result for drink spiking nairobi

 

During the festive season, police had raised a warning to revellers of a gang out to spike drink.

The criminals, who move in groups, purchase the drugs from chemists without prescription.
A spot check in chemists shows 14 tablets of Stilnox 10 mg retails at Sh480 and its generic-Nirest or Zolpidem retails at between Sh10 and Sh20 per tablet.
“We are currently amending legislation to increase fines and make them more punitive and deterrent against offenders,” said Pharmacy and Poisons Board CEO Fred Siyoi.
