Let’s Have More Coffee In Kigali

The Java House Africa chain has ventured into expanded its wings in Rwanda as it has established a second eatery affirming its billion-shilling growth plan for Eastern Africa. Located in Remera area, comes after opening its first coffee house in the Rwandan city in January 2017.

Java House said a large share of the over Sh1 billion set aside for expansion will go towards opening new branches across East Africa. The firm runs coffee outlets, owns 360 Degrees Pizza and a frozen yoghurt brand dubbed Planet Yoghurt. It currently has 63 branches.

“Our goal is to carry the finest East African coffee to the rest of the world — but first, to ‘fill’ the regional market, hence explaining a move to expand to all corners of the East African Community,” said Java House Head of Property Sam Imende during the launch.

The expansion drive is set to continue in the wake of the proposed acquisition of Java’s owner Abraaj Holdings by UK-based private equity fund Actis.

The Competition Authority of Kenya in a notice indicated that it had approved the deal but did not specify the value of Actis’ stake.
