Justice for Baby Pendo is Now in the Hands of the DCI

The long awaited investigation into the killing of Baby Samantha Pendo has revealed that the six-month-old baby was killed by the police during the chaotic 2017 general elections that saw many other lives lost.

On Thursday, a Kisumu court recommended that the Directorate of Criminal Investigation take action against police commanders in charge of the operation.

Resident Magistrate Beryl Omollo stated her in her ruling that the evidence presented before court overwhelmingly incriminates  police for the death of baby Pendo.

They include former Kisumu County Commander Titus Yoma and four other officers.

The court also calls for an action taken against a platoon of 30 GSU officers who had been deployed to Nyalenda led by their commander Nzioka Mutune.

Baby Samantha Pendo died in August 2017 after she was reportedly hit on the head by anti riot police who stormed her parents house in Nyalenda slums, Kisumu.

Earlier on, statements to this case had been given by the parents Mr Abanja and Ms Lencer Achieng, and nine other civilians, who some of them were neighbours.

Noordin Haji had directed the investigation into the matter after the police failed to give a report on culprits.
