Is it a diehard love: Man commits suicide after in-laws take back their girl

A man, 27, has committed suicide outside his in-law’s house at Eburru trading centre in Gilgil on Thursday after a domestic row.

The b0daboda operator hanged himself on a tree in the compound after he was barred from going back with the wife whom they had fallen out with a month ago.

This came as leaders in the area decried the rising cases of suicide among the youth with drugs and alcohol abuse being the major contributor.

In the latest incident, the deceased had gone to his in-laws to pick his wife who had fled from her matrimonial home, when an argument ensued forcing him to leave abruptly.

“The couples were constantly quarrelling hence, his wife left him and was living with her parents.”  said Adam Kiragu, a resident in the neighbourhood.

Kiragu added that his in-laws were opposed to the idea of letting their daughter go back to him claiming that he had not reformed in his wayward ways.

“He left the home but promised them he will be around for the night only for his body to be found Thursday morning hanging on a tree in the compound.” he said.

A local leader Anita Wangeci said the institution of marriage especially among youths was under threat and required concerted efforts to help save it.

“The Church should stand up and offer the necessary guidance to youth, who face difficulties in their marriages to curb suicide cases,” she said.
