Deadly Kenya water bodies claiming people’s lives

Rashid Wanjala of Kochwa village, Navakholo sub county has lost two of his sons after they drowned in river Nzoia. The two brothers aged seven and eleven had been sent home from Mukama Primary School for not paying examination fee and were playing with their friends when they decided to jump into the river to swim.

A witness who saw them jump into the river alerted the neighbors. Another form three student of St Charles Lwanga Koromait drowned in river Kipkaren in Lugari sub county after he had gone swimming with his class.

Cases of children losing lives in water bodies have become so frequent. This comes after three boys aged between nine and 12 years, among them twins drowned in a dam inside Nyahururu Golf Club after they had gone to the golf club to have a glimpse at a helicopter that had ferried Deputy President Dr William Ruto to a funds drive at Ndaragwa township in the neighboring Nyandarua County.

The twins are suspected to have decide to swim at the dam after failing to see the chopper while the third boy drowned as he was trying to rescue the two.
