On the morning of 23rd December 2018, as the world was preparing to mark Christmas celebrations, one woman was contemplating on how to end her life and that of her two children; a boy aged 4 and a six year old girl.
Sheila Bwani, walked her two kids to a village market in Kwisero sub county, Kakamega on that fateful day. She purchased poison and ingested it before feeding the rest to her two children.
From the market, her daughter went to a neighbor’s house to play, only to be hit by dizzy spells before she collapsed and died. The woman and her son miraculously survived.
She said she took the drastic action because of constant harassment and frustrations from her close family members. She appeared before Justice Jesse Njagi in Kakamega where she was charged with murder.
