Spies deployed to malls and hotels around the country

Spies posing as undercover police have been put in place in selected areas of the country  among which include shopping malls, public institutions and hotels as the Kenya government bolsters its counter-terrorism measures.

Martin Kimani, Director of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) said that this was part of a response measure to the Riverside Drive Terror attack.

Speaking yesterday at the launch of a report titled, understanding the impact of violent extremism on Kenya’s Private Sector,  Martin Kimani said the NCTC is working closely and actively with owners and security mangers of hotels and malls, to upgrade their surveillance using their CCTV and security guards.

He reassured that private security companies and police stations close to businesses are ready to respond to any kind of security threat.
