Serikali Saidia! More than 50 schools in Baringo shut due to lack of food and water

More than 50 primary schools in the arid areas of Baringo County risk closure due to lack of food and water.

This follows the persistent dry spell in the area which has also led to the drying up of major water sources.

Schools in Tiaty, Baringo South, Mogotio and Baringo North are expected to be affected by the looming drought.
Locals have moved with their children and livestock to other areas in search of water and pasture.

Some of the schools worst hit include Nasorot, Toplen, Naudo, Lochokia, Napukut,Kang’uria, Silale, Korelach, Katagh, Embositit, Kapunyany, Chemayes, Ptikii , Riong’o, Akwichatis, Chesakam and Nakule respectively.

Thousands are now forced to dig burrow-like wells on dry river beds to access the diminishing resource.

Most of the water sources in the area are shared with animals and therefore waterborne diseases like diarrhoea are common, especially among children. To add salt to injury, all county water browsers are grounded.
