It might be a shocker to parents if the new proposal by secondary school principals is adopted. The Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) proposed that school fees be hiked by a whooping Sh18,000. If approved, parents will pay Sh80,482 from the current Sh62,679 for extra-count schools. Parents will cough Sh91,646 from the current Sh75,798 for national schools. As for  county schools parents will pay Sh70,216 from the current Sh62,679.

the purchase of textbooks too will be suspended if the new proposal is adopted and the money instead used to equip schools with  information and communication technology (ICT) and laboratories. the argument and justification for this change is that the textbooks that student recieve are enough as each student recieve textbook worth Sh4,196.

Parents with children in sub-county schools have not been spared too. In addition to the lucnh money that they pay in school, they will have to pay Sh6,257 a year.
