Ruto throws shades at Murathe

Deputy President William Ruto and former Jubilee Vice chair David Murathe have been throwing shades on each other following a recent comeback by DP Ruto when he said he did not care what Nurathe said and he had all the freedom to say whatever he wished.

DP Ruto has now come insisting that David Murathe did not have blessings of President Uhuru Kenyatta despite the two being close when he vowed to block his 2022 candidature.

In January, Murathe, a close confidant of Uhuru, vowed to use all available channels to block Ruto’s bid, adding that Supreme Court could also be his likely option.

In an interview with BBC Hard Talk, Ruto accused Murathe of purporting to speak for Uhuru, adding that his tactics flopped thus the decision to resign.

“The person that matters to me is Uhuru Kenyatta. For your information, the vice-chair you are referring to walked away because he overreached himself and said things that he wanted the country to believe was Mr Kenyatta’s position when it was not.

“There are very many people who are opposed to my candidature. But there are millions who believe that I am fit for the job. And I want to tell you that it will not take one person, a gang or a group to decide who becomes president of Kenya or, for that matter, who becomes the candidate of Jubilee. It will take the entire Jubilee Party leadership and party membership and it will then take 45 million Kenyans to decide who becomes president,” reports the Nation.

Dr Ruto has been under pressure from a section of Mt Kenya politicians to retire along with Uhuru even as the team formed a movement to sabotage his 2022 bid dubbed Mt Kenya and Diaspora Forum, whose membership include Mr Murathe.

After the tough remarks about Ruto’s presidency, Murathe resigned, though insisting that he was not under any pressure to do so.

Throughout this period, Uhuru has remained mum, with pundits claiming that he could be silently pushing for rejection of DP Ruto.
