President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued an ultimatum to nurses, giving them up to Friday the 15th of February to report back to work failure to which county governments and the Ministry of Health shall dismiss them.
”The most important principle upon which our republic is established upon is the rule of law. No one is above the law. Obeying court orders is not optional but a requirement to all of us,” said President Uhuru Kenyatta, following a meeting with the Council of Governors led by Governor Wycliffe Oparanya.
The president warned the Kenya National Union of Nurses against intimidating health workers who are willing to resume work whilst instructing the police to take firm action against protesters obstructing those who are willing to resume work.
“As the Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, I have instructed the National Police Service to take decisive action against those picketers who may intimidate or otherwise harass public servants who intend to go to work,” President Kenyatta ordered.
The president noted with great concern the huge sums of money swallowed up in recurrent expenditure citing that at least 875 of the county’s budget are channeled to expenses rather than capital spending.
