‘Dani Alves TRIED To Get Paul Pogba Sent Off’

United were dealt a harsh reality check after being brought down to earth by Paris St-Germain in the Champions League.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s brilliant unbeaten start to life as manager of the Red Devils came to an abrupt end last night.

PSG showed their utter class and dominance after beating United 2-0 at Old Trafford, with the home side only managing just one shot on target.

Presnel Kimbembe opened the scoring after Nemanja Matic lost him at a corner, while Kylian Mbappe showcased his incredible speed to double the lead.

Matters turned from bad to worse, though, when Paul Pogba picked up a second yellow card late into the match.

The Frenchman showed his studs in a nasty challenge with Dani Alves and will miss the second leg of the tie.

Tempers were flaring all match between the two, with a number of fouls occurring both on and from them.

And Solskjaer has suggested that the Brazilian knew exactly what he was doing when going in against Pogba.

“Yeah it is (unlucky),” Solskjaer said, when asked about the incident.

“He is trying to get his body across and Alves is clever enough to put his foot in there so it hits him from the side.

“I know Paul just wants to shield the ball, and then he’s unlucky and it hits him on the knee.”

But the Norwegian, forever the optimist, has insisted that the match was a steep learning curve for his United side.

“They had the momentum after the first goal and controlled the game,” he commented.

“You could see that we hadn’t played at this level for a while and we will have to learn.

“It was an experience that can go either way, it’s not going to be a season defining one, it’s one we have to learn from.

“Mountains are there to be climbed, you can’t lay down and say this is over. We will go there, play our game and improve from today.

“Today is a reality check for us.”
