With an unblinking eye, the president has ordered the nurses to return to work or else be fired. But, does he have the powers to fire the nurses?
“As the Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, I have instructed National Police Service to take stern action on picketers who may intimidate public servants who intend to go to work,” Said the president.
From the powers accorded to him by the constitution, the president can only do so through executive orders.
The Labour court suspended any strike or industrial action for 60 days according to him. Citizens on twitter questioned the legality of President Kenyatta’s orders some terming it ‘tyrannical’.
