ZIMBABWE VP TAKEN TO INDIA HOSPITAL, CITIZENS CRY FOUL FOR APPALLING LOCAL HEALTH SECTOR

Zimbabwe  Vice-President Constatino Chiwenga, 62, is receiving medical treatment in India.

This comes days after he dismissed reports of being airlifted to South Africa.

The former head of Zimbabwe’s military played a key role in ousting former President Robert Mugabe in 2017.

Deputy Information Minister Energy Mutodi said on social media that Mr Chiwenga was recovering well from a minor abdominal ailment in the Indian capital, Delhi.

The post was ridiculed by citizens in a country where politicians routinely seek medical attention abroad while the public health system has collapsed and hospitals lack medicine.

Reports say he is widely seen as a potential successor to the current leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
