Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s surprise 7-word response to latest Man Utd job question

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces his biggest test as Manchester United manager so far in the next six days.

The Norwegian has won 10 of his 11 games in charge since replacing Jose Mourinho in December, the caretaker boss impressing with his tactical acumen and ability to get the best out of United’s key men.

Now he faces Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday night, before Monday’s FA Cup fifth round clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Throw in the clash with Premier League title-chasers Liverpool at the end of the month, and the last 16 second leg in Paris, and the next month will go some way to determining Solskjaer’s long-term future, with the United boss currently effectively on loan from Molde.

As it stands however, it is a case of so far, so good.

United chiefs Ed Woodward and Avram Glazer met with both Solskjaer and his agent Jim Solbakken after the weekend win over Fulham, the first time the co-owner had seen United in person since Mourinho’s exit – but there is expected to be no confirmation over the club’s next permanent manager until the end of the season.

However, on Monday night Solskjaer insisted that suggestions seeing off PSG would make him a shoo-in for the job were “too simple”.

And when asked about his feelings on his prospects for being named United boss full-time, Solskjaer responded: “You need to change the script now.”

He continued: “There’s still a few more months left of this season to do whatever we need to do.”

Solskjaer’s men take on a PSG side missing both Edinson Cavani and Neymar due to injury.

But he isn’t taking anything for granted against the French champions.

“Of course any team that are missing players like Neymar, Cavani and [Thomas] Meunier will feel the effect,” he said.

“But that gives the other players a chance. It makes it more unpredictable for us [to know] who they are going to play.

“When you see them over the season you know what to expect. This time around we are guessing a little bit how they are going to come and play.

“But we’ve got a good guesstimate on how they are approaching this game.”
