Man Utd and PSG’s Four Players At Risk Of Suspension From The Second Leg

Four players go into tonight’s game between Manchester United and PSG knowing a yellow card will see them miss out on March’s return leg.

Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia are the only United players to have picked up a booking in two group-stage matches and a third will see them suspended.

Matic was cautioned in the 2-1 win over Juventus in November before being booked again that same month in the 1-0 victory over Young Boys.

Valencia was also carded in that game against Young Boys as well as in the defeat by Valencia in United’s final group game.

For PSG, Marco Verratti and Jan Thilo Kehrer are at risk of one-game suspensions.

Neymar also picked up two bookings in the group phase but won’t feature in either game against United due to a foot injury that will keep him out until April.

Yellow cards are only wiped after the quarter-finals, so both Matic and Valencia will have to go four games without picking up another booking or risk missing a knock-out game.It is Matic’s situation that will concern Solskjaer the most given United’s lack of strength in depth in midfield.

Matic, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba have thrived in a midfield three since Solskjaer took charge and Scott McTominay, Fred and Andreas Pereira are yet to prove themselves to be able back-ups.

Valencia is not in Solskjaer‘s long-term plans and he is unlikely to play against PSG after he was not spotted arriving at the team hotel on Monday night.

His contract at United expires at the end of the season.
