Lamu East Get their First Girls Boarding School At Last

The joy of the people of Pate in Lamu East Constituency could not be measured after receiving the first-ever girls boarding secondary school in the ever marginalized region.

The girls’ school had officially been launched by the Deputy President Dr William Ruto last year December but the admission began in January with a full functioning of the boarding facilities.

The area has a poor history of girls engaging in early marriages as early as after class 8 due to somewhat lack of girls secondary school in the region. During opening, the area MP Sharrif Ali Athman insisted that the opening of the school was very important for the promotion of girls and boys education in the region.

“Pate Girls Boarding Secondary School will play a major role in increasing the number of girls completing secondary education here in our constituency,” Sharrif Said.

Sharrif continued that girls who finish their school early will act as a role model to others.

The area leaders were also encouraged to continue with their mission of creating awareness to the community and inform them of the facility, which could help them realize their dreams.

On her part, Kilifi Women Representative, Getrude Mbeyu appreciated the achievement telling residents that education was the only way for marginalized community to escape poverty cycle.

The establishment of the school was funded by the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) as well as well-wishers.

The school is estimated as at the moment to accommodate about 300 students.
