Three people were feared dead in a head-on road accident at Maseno along Kisumu-Busia highway.
The accident involved two canter trucks and a motocyle. According to eye an witnesses, the two trucks collided head-on and along the busy highway.
Three other people sustained serious injuries and were reportedly rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.
The accident has caused a huge snarl-up on the highway and motorists are compelled to veer off the main road in attempt to get past the wreckage.
Police officers and rescue team lead by medical emergency officers have arrived at the scene and are providing first aid services to the casualities.
Initial reports indicated that the brakes of the tanker failed while ascending a steep road at Daraja Mbili.
Confirming the accident Kenyans.co.ke, Likuyani OCPD Meshack Kiptum stated that the wrecked matatu was towed to Maseno Police Station and the driver of the trailer arrested.
Nyanza Regional Traffic boss Andrew Naibei said that the trailer reversed and hit a matatu which was heading to Busia.
Naibei further stated that those injured were the driver of the Bungoma Line Shuttle and two passengers who were seated in the front seats.
Other passengers escaped unhurt while the injured were rushed to Kisumu County Hospital for treatment.
