“Kshs 300,000 to be given as reward to anyone with whereabouts of missing activist” Pledges Sonko

The mood is anxious and sombre as the family of missing human rights activist, Caroline Mwatha, search desperately for their loved one.

Caroline, who was last seen leaving her home on Wednesday of February 6th, has been missing for nearly a week now.

Her family has gone above and beyond to search for her, looking in just about every mortuary and funeral home in the city.

In fact, they were clearly morbid when they were presented with information that a body had been found in Nairobi River, only for it to be later identified as that of a male.

That being said, her family is confident that Mwatha is alive, and are looking forward to reuniting with her once she is found.

Her disappearance has attracted public interest, with Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko coming forward and offering Kshs 300,000 to anyone that will provide vital information leading to the discovery of Mwatha.

The Governor requested any individual that has some sort of knowledge on her whereabouts to come forward and provide information to the DCI offices, or to the nearest police station.

According to one of Mwatha’s closest colleagues, she had been receiving a flurry of threats from police officers.

These could have been tied to the number of documented cases that she had covered regarding police extrajudicial killings, as well as forceful disappearance of individuals by the police.

In fact, her recent focus had been that of six Dandora residents brutally murdered in October of 2018.

On the day of her disappearance, Mwatha is believed to have first dropped her daughter at school.

However, she did not get to work and her phone was switched off shortly after.

Commenting on the current events, Amnesty International has called on the police to conduct thorough and prompt investigations to unearth the whereabouts of Caroline
