Follow What the Law Says, Elachi and Mueke Tells off Kalonzo

Nairobi County Speaker Beatrice Elachi and former Deputy Governor Jonathan Mueke are the latest leaders to lash out Kalonzo Musyoka’s utterance of supporting President Uhuru for the third term.

Speaking to Citizen Tv Daybreak show, the two insisted that our current constitution has clearly stipulated on the term a president is expected to take in office and that Kenyans have no problem with it.

“Let us follow what the law says, let us accept that our constitution has been so democratic in terms of the president’s term,” Said Beatrice.

Mueke on his part stated that the presidential term limit is guided by the constitution and it is there for a reason. He added that after 10 years of service, another able Kenyan should take the office and lead the country.

The former deputy county boss further warned against referendum debate expressing fears that the government’s big four agenda may not be realized if the state servants involve themselves in the debate.

“The big four could continue if we have a cabinet that is not political, a cabinet that is working on delivering the president’s agenda,” he said.

During a meeting with the ukambani leaders in Machakos, Kalonzo said that the current constitution needs amendment to remove the system of ‘the winner takes it all,’ which has already hurt the nation in the past elections.

Musyoka even asked the public to support the government in its work and mentioned that he is ready to stand with Uhuru if the constitution allows him to vie for another term.

“Tuungane, with other communities, tumsaidie ndugu Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. Kama atasema, after the new Constitution tumeiunda, ‘mimi nataka kuendelea mbele’ ntamwambia nitakusupport ( Let’s unite with other communities, to help brother Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. If he says, after the new constitution is amended that ‘I want to continue serving’ I’ll tell him that I support you), Kalonzo said.

Musyoka’s statement has received mixed reactions from both leaders and kenyans.
