Fake cop arrested in Kariobangi

Police in Kariobangi, Nairobi county, have nabbed a man masquerading as a General Service Unit (GSU) police officer.

The 38-year-old man identified as Benedict Omondi Otieno was arrested while dressed in police uniform together with two other people who were terrorising members of the public demanding money and other gooodies from them.

The police recieved a tip-off about the fake cop and his team from members of the public and swifly moved nto action. When they reached at the scene, the suspects engaged the police in gunshoots before they  finally managed to arrest the uniformed suspect who refused to give much details about himself. During the shoot out, a 19-year-old lady sustained an injury after she was shot on her thigh.

The police have however said the lady is undergoing treatment and she is ia a stable condition asking the public to remain calm and avail any necessary inform that could help combat crime in the area.

“Ann wanjiku Wainaina aged 19 years sustained a bullet wound on her right thigh and was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital. She is  in  astable condition,”  said the police.

Police have since launched a manhunt to other two susects who managed to escape during the the ambush that turned chaotic.

“We are looking for the other two managed who to escaped our raid, we will ensure they are arrested and brought to book,”said the police.

It is not clear yet how the suspect managed to get the GSU uniform but reports have indicated that a GSU  officer who is currently on leave has been arrested in connection to the matter. It is suspected that the officer could be an accomplice in the crime.

This comes in the wake of a stern warning issued by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinet against members of the public wearing attires resembling those of the police. The IG cautioned that the act will be interpreted as police impersonation which is punashable under the law.
