Back my Presidential Bid, Mutua Tells Kalonzo

Machakos governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua has openly asked his rival Kalonzo Musyoka to back his 2022 presidential bid since the former Vice president seems to have dropped his presidential bid.

The statement comes after Kalonzo recently declared his support for the need to remove presidential term limit and stated that he is ready to support president Uhuru if he decides to run again.

Mutua has reiterated that he seems to be the only leader from Eastern province who has declared his state house bid.

“For that reason and because I am the only leader from the Eastern region who has declared that he wants to run for the presidency, I request him to support my bid,” said Mutua.

In October 2018, Musyoka said that the famous handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga do not stand in any way against his presidential bid.

However, Dr Alfred said that he was not of Kalonzo’s proposal of removing term limit terming the move as a way to promote dictatorship and discouraging new generation.

“The young generation need to be to inspired. People who push for the removal of presidential limits have a problem passing the baton to others because they want to cling to power forever,” said Mr Mutua, who spoke flanked by Deputy Governor Francis Malit. “Kenyans need politics that is forward-looking,”

Mr Mutua further stated that his the former VP lacks a political stand, which for a long time has denied him leadership opportunity.

“A leader should be a person who takes a position and sticks to it. I am surprised when people say they want to be President and then become so wishy-washy’. How can you trust somebody who keeps on changing his position about being your Commander in Chief? You cannot.” Mutua said.

Regarding referendum call, Dr Alfred said that his Maendeleo Chap Chap party supports it and will soon release its report of how it should be structured.

Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader confirmed that him together with Kivutha Kibwana and Charity Ngilu are not fighting Kalonzo but the ‘politics of poverty’ in the region.

The governor was speaking a few days after Wiper Party Leader held a meeting with Ukambani leaders in Machakos, an occasion which was not attended by the region’s governors.
