The 33-year old England international, whose original deal was due to expire at the end of the current season, has signed a new deal to extend his contract by one more year to 2020 to become the latest United player to commit their careers at the Old Trafford.

“The deal will keep our no.18 at Old Trafford until the end of the 2019/20 season.”

Young has made 227 appearances for the Old Trafford club since joining from Aston Villa back in 2011 scoring 17 goals and has shown his versatility in both midfield and defense.

In the earlier stages of his career, the veteran full-back played as a winger, before Mourinho identified his capabilities as a defender.

Caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started Young in all but two of his games in charge, regularly selecting him as captain in the absence of Antonio Valencia.

Anthony Martial, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay all agreed new deals earlier this season, with Phil Jones also signing a new deal last week.

The England full-back has enjoyed nine successful years at United, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League and Carabao Cup and has played a key role for United this season, featuring in 25 matches across all competitions.

Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are the only United players with contracts that expire in the summer but reports indicate that Herrera’s camp expect the midfielder to stay and United are still in talks with Mata’s representatives.
