Sergio Aguero breaks record to Become Man City’s new all-time top league scorer

Sergio Aguero this evening became the new owner of a Manchester City club-record, before equalling a long-standing Premier League record held by Alan Shearer.

City welcomed Chelsea to the Etihad a short time ago, in a crucial clash in the race for both the Premier League title, and a spot in the English top-flight’s top-4.

Visitors Chelsea headed into proceedings having been ousted from their Champions League berth by Manchester United yesterday, after the Red Devils made short work of Fulham.

City, meanwhile, had fallen 3 points behind Liverpool in the race for Premier League supremacy, on the back of the Reds’ comfortable win over Bournemouth.

City on another level
The subsequent 90 minutes played out in Manchester this evening, though, didn’t even prove a contest.

Hosts City simply battered Chelsea from start to finish, with a blitzing opening half-hour from Pep Guardiola’s men having seen the Sky Blues rack up an unassailable 4-goal lead.

Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero (2) and Ilkay Gundogan all found the net within the game’s opening 25 minutes at the Etihad, before Aguero went on to notch his 3rd of the day from the penalty-spot shortly after the interval.

And, while Aguero’s goals proved crucial in catapulting his side back to the summit of the Premier League table, they also proved significant on an individual level.

As showcased below, Aguero set a new Manchester City club record after notching his brace this evening, before going on to equal Alan Shearer’s hat-trick record with his 3rd of the day before the hour-mark.

Raheem Sterling added further gloss to the scoreline for City with his side’s 6th in the 80th-minute.
