Victoria Kimani Weighs in on Uganda’s move to use women as tourist attraction

Kenya Female artist Victoria Kimani has given her thought on Uganda’s move to use women as tourist attraction.

Kimani expressed her thought as she was clearly surprised if not shocked by the publication that featured the news.

Victoria Kimani questioned whether the using women to attract tourists is an agenda to push  for prostitution or  they simply want tourists to have a look at the women.

Through her Instastory, Kimani expressed her concern implying that this move  might be totally off.

The breaking of this news online triggered a lot of reactions from several people including a section of Ugandan women who called for an apology and demanded that the move should be cancelled.

Yesterday, Justice Care Uganda demanded that the ministry of Tourism should immediately halt the campaign and issue an apology to women of Uganda.

“Our women have a lot to offer to our country’s development as they are working hard to raise their family & offer valuable service to our motherland.” reads their tweet.

The pageant was unveiled in Kampala on Tuesday by the State Minister for Tourism, Mr Godfrey Kiwanda, as part of tourism promotion.

“We have naturally endowed nice looking women that are amazing to look at. Why don’t we use these people as a strategy to promote our tourism industry?” Mr Kiwanda posed.

Women say the contest is demeaning as it objectifies their bodies as sex objects. Some have even claimed that it is the ‘modern form of sex slavery.

Kenyans have also shared their thought with some saying that the decision shows  the existent of ‘pervert minded’ officials in the ministry of tourism.
