Just like Deputy president William Ruto, Homa Bay speaker Elizabeth Ayoo has had many woes in her reign with lots of opposition arising from her territory threatening to push her off her ground in fierce political war.
On Thursday however relievingly a court extended a stay order for her position in the county assembly.The Labour and Relations court in Kisumu said the move is pending hearing and determination of the matter.
Justice Nduma Nderi cautioned the assembly clerk from interfering with the office of the Speaker.“Any purported election of an acting Speaker is null and void,” the judge warned.
Speaker Ayoo has been under siege since last year when members of the county assembly even attempted to block her from accessing her office.
The Employment and Labour Relations Court in Kisumu court had on October 16, 2018 issued orders reinstating Ms Ayoo as the Speaker following her impeachment by the MCAs.
In the packed and tense courtroom, Justice Nderi was forced to interject on several occasions to stop a war of words between Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma and the lead counsel for the petitioner Mr David Otieno.
Mr Otieno accused Mr Kaluma of contempt of court, insulting the Speaker on local radio stations and even using his Twitter account to incite MCAs against the Speaker and telling them to elect a new Speaker as soon as possible.
