Jubilee politicians reveal more details over Murathe’s rigging claims

Former Jubilee Party vice chairman David Murathe’s revelation that there was massive rigging in the primaries has opened a can of worms.

Mr Murathe claimed Deputy President William Ruto manipulated the process so as to plant his allies in Mt Kenya region as well as his Rift Valley backyard.

Yesterday, more Jubilee politicians who lost in the primaries claimed the process was a fraud since it was manipulated to push out certain individuals.

Nominated Senator Isaac Mwaura described the nominations as “a sham” while former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando maintained the process was fraudulent, only intended to end careers of certain political leaders who are perceived by certain quarters as threat.

In a live interview on Citizen TV on Tuesday, Murathe claimed that Ruto orchestrated “a commotion” during the first days of the primaries, forcing the ruling coalition to recall the exercise.

Murathe, who is a close ally of President Uhuru, said the repeat process was marred with rigging that saw popular candidates lose.“It started with the Jubilee party nomination.

The first day they started creating some commotion in parts of the country and we made a decision to recall it. So the first day nominations flopped,” Murathe said.

“When we repeated the second nominations, all hell broke loose because some interested parties rigged out highly popular people, in some of our own areas in Mt Kenya and Rift Valley and planted the people they wanted.”

A one-time presidential candidate and 2017 Nairobi gubernatorial candidate Peter Kenneth and former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo had also accused Ruto of rigging them out as they were a threat to his presidential bid.

Mwaura who contested for Ruiru parliamentary seat said there was widespread rigging in Jubilee stronghold.
