Former Manchester United and West Ham man Ravel Morrison is on the verge of joining Swedish side Ostersunds FK, according to the club’s technical director David Webb. Midfielder Morrison has made next to no impact at current club Lazio, having made just four league appearances since 2015. But an Ostersunds statement on the club’s website suggested they are confident they will land the 26-year-old. It read: “OFK may reinforce the team with another player. Ravel Morrison has joined the training camp in Marbella. OFK is currently negotiating with Lazio for a transfer to OFK for Ravel Morrison. Ravel wants to get acquainted with the team and then we’ll see how it goes.”

Now he is close to a move but we have not signed any contract yet.” Morrison was a very highly-regarded youngster having come through the youth ranks at Old Trafford while also representing England at youth level too.  However, a number of off-field transgressions have overshadowed his football career to date. He appeared to be turning a corner when he started making appearances for West Ham under Sam Allardyce but was later put out on loan to Birmingham, QPR and Cardiff before completing his surprise move to Lazio.Related imageMorrison spent another temporary spell at QPR and was most recently on loan at Mexican side Atlas.  Ostersunds were only founded in 1996 but raced up the divisions under now Swansea manager Graham Potter, who guided them to the Europa League knockout stages last season, beating Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium but going out 4-2 on aggregate. Fellow Englishman Ian Burchnall is the current manager following Potter’s departure, with Ostersunds finishing sixth last season.

Meanwhile former United defender, Wes Brown has urged Manchester United to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane this summer. The Red Devils are in desperate need of a commanding centre-half after leaking 35 league goals so far this season.  And despite reportedly having two bids rejected for Napoli rock Kalidou Koulibaly last month, Brown, who won five Premier League titles with United, thinks the club should make Varane their prime transfer target.Image result for wes brownThe 25-year-old starred for France as they won the 2018 World Cup and is considered one of the best defenders in the world. Brown told William Hill: “The dream defender for United would be Rafael Varane. “He would cost a lot and it would need to be the right fit for United. It’s difficult to say as United have a lot of defenders to choose from, and [interim boss Ole Gunnar] Solskjaer will want players to justify their positions on the pitch.”

Varane had been linked with a move to Old Trafford during Jose Mourinho’s tenure. His potential arrival could see him partner Victor Lindelof, who has thrived under Solskjaer’s guidance. Brown, who made 361 United appearances between 1996 and 2011, said: “Lindelof has started to understand what it takes in English football. It was similar to [Nemanja] Vidic adapting to the English game. It’s difficult and different adjusting to the league, and moving to a new country. It’s quicker and stronger in certain areas and sometimes it takes time to adjust. I never thought he was bad, but he’s started to understand more and taken everything in, you can now see the class coming out.”
