Cases of human conflict with Wild Animals have lately been on the rise with some of them often turning tragic leading to loss of lives and property.

Kenyans have time and again taken action into their own hands with each and everyone of them seemingly blaming it on the Kenya Wildlife Service for their failure to control the movement of these wild animals.

At times though, KWS officers have also been forced to kill these stray animals that have time and again proven to be dangerous and very destructive.

This was the case in Kisumu at Usoma Beach where residents feasted on a hippo that was killed by Kenya Wildlife Service officers.

They complained that the hippo has been straying into people’s homes.

KWS officials shot the hippo three times after members of the community raised the alarm.

Resident Samuel Odongo said the animal has wreaked havoc in the past few months.

“The hippo has killed our cows which we had tethered in our compounds. We used to lock ourselves up in our houses for fear of being attacked,” Odongo said.

Soon after the hippo was shot dead, residents slaughtered the animal and shared the meat.
