Arsenal’s season has been somewhat of a mixed bag so far. While performances have been far from impressive the results have been encouraging hence the reason they sit only three points off the top four in February, something most fans did not expect at the start of the season. Unai Emery has had to deal with a squad that finished sixth last season which is no easy task. However, the Spaniard’s influence can be seen through the performances of some players who have greatly improved since his arrival. Here are three players who have impressed for the Gunners this season:

Rob Holding

It is not a secret that Arsenal’s defence has been complete shambles ever since Rob Holding suffered an unfortunate knee injury at Od Trafford in November last year. Prior to the injury, the young Englishman had been the pillar to  very shaky Arsenal backline and his absence has seen the shaky elevate to crumbling and hopeless. His positional play is excellent and he is very good at the tackle, what impressed most was his range of passing which Arsenal has been lacking since. Under Emery, Holding looked the real deal, lets hope he comes back sooner!

Lucas Torreira

The little Uruguayan has got to be the signing of the season! Torreira sets the tone for how Arsenal plays with his relentless tackling and tenacity. What impresses the most is his success in winning his duels plus the ability to pick the right pass after winning the ball. He is still only 22 which means there is lots of room for improvement but I bet you Arsenal fans are already very happy with what the little guys offers.

Matteo Guendouzi

When Arsenal announced in the summer that they had signed a 19 year old midfielder from the French second division, no one expecte the player to have the impact that he has had so far. The perfectly haired youngster has played in all of Arsenal’s Premier League matches bar one where he was suspended and has impressed in all of them! His composure on the ball defies his age while his range of passing is on par with that of an experienced pro midfielder.

His does have his flaws but that is expected from a 19 year old midfielder playing his first ever full season in a top flight league. Mateo Guendouzi has all the attributes of a future World Class player and the fact that he is an Arsenal player should have fans excited.
