Kenyans Listen, The American Dream is Overrated. Just Ask 21 Savage!

When we think of the US, we imagine a land flowing with milk and honey, filled with bountiful opportunities that even the common ‘wanjiku’ can capitalize on.

Just imagine it. No more overcrowded matatus, pungent smells emanating from heaps of litter left in the middle of the street, or the proverbial insults tossed by ‘makangas’ that are so vile, they make you want to tear your ears off!

And if that’s not enough, you were peacefully heading home before encountering a street boy. So what does he do? Harass you with ‘leftovers’ of his last meal and snatch your handbag!

Boy, it can be a jungle out here…

However, the US might not be the bed of roses that we have been brainwashed to believe. And this can clearly be shown by the recent immigration scandal befalling rapper 21 Savage.

Deportation Threats and Strict Immigration Rules

After a series of crippling Super-bowl memes that have left the rapper’s career hanging by the thread, 21 Savage admitted to his fans that he was indeed, born in the United Kingdom.

The rapper’s recent deportation controversy was first sparked by his arrest on the 2nd of February after the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency discovered his passport expired 14 years ago!

Immediately, Twitter went on a frenzy, coming up with all sorts of hilarious memes such as this one.

So you’ve got to ask yourself. If such a successful rapper can face deportation issues in the US, what about the average Kenyan searching for greener pastures? Here are three things you should remember before going abroad:

East or West, Home is Best

Yes, you plan to relocate to the States. But remember, you will always be a Kenyan by birth and by naturalization. Don’t forget your home

Preserve your Culture

Stay true to your African roots and morals because some of the ideologies in the West can be pretty crazy!

Invest Back Home

And last but not least, despite the many challenges we face here, Kenya is still a marvelous place and with the right investments, you can make it your heaven on earth.
