In a gazette notice dated February 4, Mr Macharia named six new people to the board of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The new board takes over from the previous one whose term ended in January, even as the government seeks to eliminate corrupt officials from the authority.

In the notice, Mr Macharia listed John Ndege Obwocha, Catherine Njeri Waweru, Alice Chepchumba Chesire and Francis Kiriinya under the CS’s appointees.Image result for ntsa

To represent groups with special interests in the transportation industry, the CS also appointed Moses Nderitu Giachemi and Meshack Kidenda.

“They will [serve] for three years, with effect from February 4, 2019,” Mr Macharia said.

On January 21, President Uhuru Kenyatta issued an executive order moving the NTSA from the Transport ministry to the Interior ministry.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i plans to visit the authority Tuesday to unveil the new board and direct the management on the allegations of graft.

Last week, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations arrested and presented in court six NTSA staff over the probe into the 14 Riverside Drive terrorist attack that left 21 dead.

They are Wangocho, Stephen Kariuki, Nderitu Irving, Cosmas Ngeso, Jacqueline Githinji and Anthony Mjaka.

Prosecutor Duncan Ondimu successfully applied for a 30-day custodial order to allow police conduct investigations.

The arrest was connected to the discovery of a Toyota Ractis in Kitengela with the same registration number – KCN 240E – as a vehicle used by the terrorists in the January 15 ambush.
