President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga have in the past recommitted themselves to new beginnings where political violence will be consigned to the dustbin of Kenya’s history.
Speaking after receiving honorary doctorate degrees from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Raila and the Uhuru reassured Kenyans that no blood will be shed or lives of innocent Kenyans lost because of politics.
Uhuru and Railas words have received backing from Former Jubilee Vice Chairman David Murathe who said the government has ,made early plans to deal with potential violence in the Rift Valley if the Mt Kenya community fails to vote for Deputy President William Ruto.
Murathe, who is considered an insider in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s circle of advisers, said the President had made a commitment that there would be no election-related violence.
The former Gatanga MP added that the government had made advance security plans to ensure there is no repeat of the 2007 post-election violence.
“We cannot live in fear and we must shun those who want to sell fear to our people in Mt Kenya. We only die once but the government and the President has promised that there would be no more post-election violence.”
“In 2007, people were killed because we did not think they would behave in such a crude manner. This time, the government is alert,” Murathe said on Sunday night.
The former Jubilee Vice Chairman spoke during a political talk show on Kameme TV where he was joined by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Kiambu Speaker Stephen Ndichu and lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui.
Ndichu hit out at Murathe, accusing him of tarnishing the name of Mt Kenya voters by suggesting that they would not vote for Ruto in 2022.
